Experts warn on dangers of power banks

Engr . Shehu Yakubu, a lecturer in the Electrical Engineering Department, gave this warning

Students of Federal Polytechnic , Bida , Niger State , and others across the country have been warned on the dangers associated with power banks , as many of them are of low quality and can easily explode.

Engr. Shehu Yakubu , a lecturer in the Electrical Engineering Department, gave this warning in an interview with Campusnews . According to him , the quality of the battery is vital for the overall functions of the gadget. He observed that most companies use cheaper lithium ion batteries to reduce cost , adding that , some companies also use recycleD batteries , which make them to sell at a much cheaper price than those with standard batteries .

The don explained that inefficient circuit design is another aspect that can cause explosion. Yakubu advised users , especially students , not to allow their power bank to run down since it could result to bursting, adding that when charging their communication gadgets with power bank , it should be kept far away from human body , as it can cause explosion due to heat radiating .
