The PUNCH had reported that the state was being defrauded of millions of naira in a scheme involving LAWMA contractors.
The contractors, many of whom are politicians, allegedly inflated the wage bills of the street sweepers and supervisors under them.
According to an official source, the state government pays the contractors over N560m monthly.
However, a report of the audit of the agency’s account revealed that a large chunk of the money was going to ghost workers and non-existent contractors.
The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership called for the involvement of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission in the matter.
LAWMA, in a statement, said the government had terminated the contracts of some of the contractors, urging the street sweepers and supervisors under them to apply for direct employment.
Nigerians, who read the report, wondered why the state was not interested in bringing the culprits to justice.
The son of the late Afrobeat legend, Seun Kuti, in a tweet, wrote, “Noise with no action. Why LASG dey give politricians the contract? Why govt no run LAWMA if no be say una dey use am to settle unasefs for govt.”
One Chucky Obi said, “Nobody is going to jail because they are fellow politicians …looters of the same feather flock together.”

On Facebook, one Oyewale Oyekunle asked the governor to name the contractors even if they were members of the All Progressives Congress.
“The contractors and their companies don’t have names? Our approach in tackling corruption in this country is laughable,” Samson Donkor also said.
Alo Fisayo wrote,
“Sacking alone is not the solution; the lasting one is to make them face the wrath of law.”
The government, however, identified one of the affected contractors as Wuraola Williams, aka Iron Lady.
