Wizkid, Davido worked hard to be on top –K-Solo slams Mc Galaxy

Singer Innocent Udofot (aka MC Galaxy) got many people talking recently when he stated in an Instagram live session that the Nigerian entertainment industry was being dominated by Yoruba.

His statement sparked diverse reactions on social media.

Expressing disappointment at MC Galaxy’s statement, popular music producer, Solomon Oyeniyi (aka K-Solo), who has worked with different Nigerian artistes, told Sunday Scoop that MC Galaxy’s statement reeked of hate and jealousy. He also added that it appeared that the Yoruba were dominating the industry because Lagos was the home of entertainment in Nigeria.

He said, “MC Galaxy is just wasting his time. He was interviewed live on Instagram when he made that statement. This is the problem we have in Nigeria. When there are no problems, we actually create problems by ourselves.

“That statement was instigated out of hate and jealousy. There was a time when 2face, Timaya and Ikechukwu were the top guys and they are not Yoruba. Now we have these young boys, Wizkid and Davido, and it looks like the industry is dominated by the Yoruba. If you are not an A-list artiste or the one being celebrated, you don’t make such a grievous statement.

“Such a statement can cause a major issue in the industry. It is people like him that have caused such problems. You see some people have called themselves a clique of Igbo artistes. Artistes should work together and not work based on tribal sentiments.

“Wizkid worked with Duncan Mighty. What if someone like Ayo Animashaun decides that he would play only songs from Yoruba artistes? What if Tajudeen Adepetu decides to only give attention to Yoruba entertainers? The industry won’t grow that way. That statement shouldn’t have been made by somebody like him. The problem is that people from MC Galaxy’s part of the country have refused to help themselves. The Yoruba people he mentioned are helping themselves and that is why it looks like the industry is being dominated by Yoruba people. The headquarters of the music business in Nigeria is Lagos and Lagos is not an eastern or middle belt state.”

Meanwhile, K-Solo urged young artistes to focus on passing good messages with their songs.

“It is good to fail in business or in your career. When you fail, you will be forced to go back to the drawing board. No matter how much you want to do commercial music, you must write.

“Your song must carry a message and meaning. Commercial music means a sound people can relate to. Being commercial doesn’t mean you should sing nonsense. Asa’s songs are commercial and have meaningful lyrics,” he said.
