RCCG demands justice for UNIBEN undergraduate, raped, killed

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has commiserated with the family of a 22-year-old undergraduate, Uwaila Omozuwa, who was raped and assaulted in a parish of the church in Benin, Edo State.

The Head, Media and Public Relations, RCCG, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, told The PUNCH on Sunday that the victim was a committed chorister in one of the church’s parishes.

He asked the police to get to the root of the case and bring the killers to justice.

Omozuwa’s brutal killing has been trending on Twitter, with many Nigerians, including celebrities, calling for justice.

The victim, who recently gained admission to the University of Benin, was said to be aspiring to be a nurse.

She was said to have been going to the RCCG, Miracle Sanctuary, Edo Province 10, to study.

Her sister, Judith Omozuwa, said she was found in a pool of blood with a torn skirt.

She later died in a hospital.

The RCCG spokesman, Olubiyi, expressed sadness at the death.

He said, “The church wants to commiserate with her family because it is a great loss; somebody has lost a daughter and a promising family member. We are saddened by the occurrence.

“The lady was a member of the choir in one of our parishes and from the report we have, she had been going to collect the key to the church, where she had been having her private study.

“On May 27, she did the same thing and nobody knew what had happened. When the night guard resumed, he found her in a pool of blood, half-naked.

“The parents were called in and the police were informed. She was taken from the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. We learnt that she gave up the ghost last night.

“It is really sad for us because we have lost a great member and we pray the Lord will help the family at this time.”
