Governor Okorocha blasts those supporting Biafra

- Governor Okorocha condemned the growing agitation for Biafra
- The Imo governor said no reasonable Igbo would support it
- He sympathised with the people of Benue over its flood

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has lashed out at those agitating for Biafra describing it as child’s play and that no reasonable Igbo person will support it.

Vanguard reports that the governor made this statement on Wednesday, September 13 when he led a delegation of the Progressive Governors’ Forum on a visit to internally displaced persons, and victims of the recent flood disaster in Benue State.

Okorocha who is the chairman of the forum said no reasonable Igbo man was in support of what the Indigenous People Of Biafra was doing.

He said: “I have always said that IPOB is an agitation group, but the captioning is bad when you talk of sovereignty within a sovereign nation and also talking of secession.

“Let me assure you that no Igbo person or man is in support of secession and people must see this as a childish act. We must stand up to address it before it becomes a national problem.

“As for us leaders in that area, it will be insane for anyone to think that the IPOB leader will ask us to follow him to seek secession.

“So Nigerians must learn to address it specifically. If you are addressing IPOB you should be specific and not to address it as if it is an Ibo affair.”

The Imo governor also donated N10 million to the flood victims.

Meanwhile, a former minister of education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, faulted the deployment of military to the southeast by the federal government of Nigeria.

In a series of tweets by the former minister, monitored by NAIJ.com on Wednesday, September 13, Ezekwesili urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to stigmatize the Igbo tribe because of the activities of IPOB.

She advised the government to handle the agitation from the group with what she called “appropriate mechanism.”
