John Cena went off script on Monday Night RAW

Roman Reigns and John Cena.

John Cena and Roman Reigns are about to kick off their program together - and what a wild ride the WWE Universe is going to be in for.

The groundwork for that feud was laid out this past Monday when Cena made his return to Monday Night RAW to confront Reigns, who has been claiming that the WWE ring is now his 'yard' after having defeated The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33. The pair exchanged in a war of words in which things seemed to get personal at times. Cena called Reigns nothing more than a cheap corporate knockoff of himself while "The Big Dog" attacked Cena's history for 'burying' young talent, and called him a 'bi*ch' multiple times.

Shortly after that segment, however, reports surfaced noting that everything that took place between the pair was completely scripted and planned out, and there seems to be no legitimate ill will between the two stars backstage.

While that may be true, however, there was one part of Cena's promo that certainly wasn't part of the plans, and it noticeably flustered the former Shield member a bit (per Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Dave Meltzer). During one of Reigns' remarks he seemed to stumble on his lines and tried to play it off by looking into the crowd as if they were interrupting him.

Cena called Reigns out on this, however, saying that 'it's called a promo, kid' and that he's gonna have to learn how to cut one if he wants to take his spot at the top of WWE. Many things in the exchange were talked about to make it seem as though the banter between the pair was legitimate, such as how fans continuously call for Cena to be turned heel.

The 16-time World Champion also mentioned how Reigns was supposed to be 'The Guy' to replace him, but so far he has been a failure. He then responded to a shot from Reigns labelling him a 'part-timer,' saying he could do this better as a part-timer than Reigns ever could full time. It was truly an entertaining segment and a great build-up for the pair's match-up at No Mercy late next month on pay-per-view (PPV).
